It’s been an eventful week as we have inaugurated President Trump a second time and lots of executive orders have been signed, creating lots of reactions ranging from celebrations to question to outright fear. As I thought about what to say today about who we will continue to be as a congregation, recognizing and respecting our political differences but also wanting to encourage people who are indeed very anxious, someone at our Governing Board meeting last night pointed out the latest podcast by my friend Adam Hamilton, “A Message to President Trump.”. He is the founding pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City. Honestly, I couldn’t capture better than Adam what I want to share with you. This is rather lengthy (a little over 28 minutes!), so you might wait until you can listen to all of it or at least over several sittings. When you hear Adam refer to his church, just imagine him saying “St. Luke’s!” In fact, imagine him saying “all United Methodists,” because this captures well the values of our denomination. So here you go...
