Kids

We partner with parents to raise children who trust God with their hearts, and follow Jesus with their lives. Here, kids ages infant through 4th grade will learn what it means to follow Jesus in an inclusive church setting. We want the time your child spends with us to be the best hour of their week.

St. Luke's Kids Online

If you’re unable to join us on Sundays, we've built our messages with you in mind as you lead your kids spiritually. Check out our Early Years (infant - PreK) and Elementary Years (K-4th Grade) messages each Sunday on our Kids Ministry YouTube page.

Special Needs Ministry

We embrace and nurture every child regardless of needs and abilities. Our Special Needs Ministry tailors teachings, groups, activities, and one-on-one time through volunteer buddies for kids who can benefit from some accommodation.

Baptism at St. Luke's

As one of two United Methodist Sacraments, baptism is a gift from God, given to remind us of the grace of Jesus Christ. Whether we are baptizing a child or an adult, we believe that God’s love for each person began before the foundations of the earth were laid.

Through baptism we affirm our role as the family of God in helping one another to know and walk in that love. We ask that parents attend a class prior to their child’s baptism in order to prepare for the commitment they are making, and to connect with other parents with whom they'll share their journey of faith and parenting. Please contact Lauren Hacker with any questions.

Kids Ministry FAQs

If you’re new to St. Luke’s...WELCOME! We are excited for you to visit and see if we’re the right fit for you and your family. If you’re visiting this weekend, be sure to fill out the pre-registration form before you get here. Once you’re here, park in our guest parking spots by Door 1. Then head through Door 1 and we’ll get you checked in.  Your child will receive a name tag and you will receive a parent sticker. This sign-in process ensures the safety of your child. Once signed in, we will walk you to your child's room. give you a tour, and get everyone to their worship spaces.

Our STEPS curriculum and programming are designed to move our students through age-appropriate lessons in our Sunday morning programming.

We prioritize the safety of our children. Safe Sanctuaries are the guidelines we follow to keep our kids and students safe. Your child's well-being is very important to us and we want to ensure we’re following every safety measure to ensure that.

Click here for the Safe Sanctuaries Policy and Procedures. Every volunteer 18 and older is required to pass a background check and complete a Safe Sanctuaries course before they’re approved to serve children and vulnerable adults at St. Luke's. In addition to security stickers, we also ensure that the nursery has at least one staff in each room who is trained in Infant and Pediatric First Aid/CPR and in each children's area outside of the nursery as well.

Snacks are not served in any classroom. We ask you to verify allergies when you sign your child in and make sure their allergies are printed on a sticker which is given to the volunteers in your child’s room.

When food is served on special occasions and when potential allergens are used during an activity, allergy signs will be posted to alert parents.

The simple answer, anywhere you’d like! We also have a unique, comfortable, and private location for nursing moms to feed babies while still watching the service on TV. Just ask us to show you where it is.

Yes! Every summer, we offer VBS to children up to those entering 4th grade. The theme changes every year to ensure your kids are learning something new and having fun. Make sure you receive the St. Luke's newsletter to stay up to date on all things Kids Ministry and St. Luke's related!

St. Luke’s is committed to working with families to ensure individuals of all ability levels feel supported and encouraged to grow in their faith. We have a buddy program for trained volunteers to partner with children who may benefit from extra support on Sunday mornings. We also have a small group for families raising children with special needs. This group meets once per month for meaningful discussions or fun outings. Childcare is always provided. Email Crystal Hensley if you are interested in more information about the small group, receiving support for your child with our buddy program, or volunteering as a buddy! Crystal can also be contacted to communicate any special requests or accommodations to church programming.

Each week we post new kids messages online that are tailored for your child's age. They can be accessed anytime during the week on our YouTube page.

Childcare is offered for many church small groups, classes and other events. Parents desiring childcare should ask the group or event point of contact about requesting childcare or e-mail Lauren Hacker for more information. Our dedicated Caregivers love nurturing and engaging with children; each is screened, certified in pediatric CPR/First Aid and trained on safety procedures. Our goal is to reflect the light of Christ and ensure each child feels loved and welcomed while in our care.

Yes. As one of the few open, inclusive, affirming churches in Indianapolis, your child will be met with love and acceptance no matter how they identify. Jesus calls us to love and respect, and we will model that to every single child who walks through our doors.

Kids Music at St. Luke's

At St. Luke’s, we are committed to helping all children explore a variety of ways to worship and praise God!

Every Sunday, our directors help to lead worship in large group Sunday School where children will not only learn the words to songs but some fun moves and the meaning behind a song. All of this in hopes of helping children become comfortable with worshiping God through music!

Additionally, there will be Extended Sunday School for children on the 1st and 3rd Sundays in the fall. During this time, all children attending Sunday School will have the chance to explore all the ways we can worship, including singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Please see the descriptions below for more information about each program.

Directed by Donita Murphy-Sims

The Genesis music program is designed to teach basic musical and movement components to our younger children. Activities will include movement, playing rhythm instruments, and singing sacred songs. Some of these songs will then be performed in both the traditional and contemporary services throughout the year.
